Picture this. It's around 3 p.m. and you still have two more
hours left of work. You feel your eyelids drooping and the
computer screen starts to blur. You feel your head get lighter
and lighter when suddenly...you feel a tap at your shoulder. It's
your boss and she's not happy.

Granted, that's probably a worse case scenario, but the point
remains the same. There's a time and place for sleep. Work isn't
it. Throughout the work day, you need to maintain, and
sometimes, boost your energy! The following tips have been
compiled so that you never face the dreaded experience of
having your boss wake you up while you should be working on
that important report.

1. Zinc - According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more
than 80% of people in the United States over the age of 20
don't get their recommended daily allowance of this mineral.
Zinc helps maintain a healthy immune system, appetite, and a
sense of taste. Fatigue, low energy, and slow healing are all

signs of insufficient amounts. Luckily for vegetarians, zinc can be
easily found in legumes (peas and beans) and whole grains.
Meat-eaters can find an abundant amount of zinc in red meats,
poultry, and shellfish.
2. Yogurt: A Perfect Snack Anytime - Yogurt is good for a lot of
things. The best thing is having it for breakfast or as a light
snack before you go workout. This energy-boosting treat fills
you up for a while and give you the immune-strengthening tools
you need to make it through the day.
3. Many Mini Meals - Keep your energy levels up and your
metabolism in full gear by eating a small amount of healthy
foods every 2 to 3 hours throughout the day.
4. Regular Exercise - Many experts believe that regular
exercise is the single most important thing anyone can do to
improve overall health and well-being. It increases energy
levels. Just remember to eat something small to give your body
extra energy before you work out.
5. Bananas - Bananas are full of potassium, something

everyone needs. Bananas are also packed with energizing
carbohydrates. Because of its nutrients, this delcious fruit is
perfect for snacking on before you go to the gym. Not only will a
banana give you energy, but it will help you burn calories faster.
6. Breathing - Most of us don't breathe properly, which may
come as a surprise to many of you who didn't even know there
was a proper way to breathe. Typically, people don't inhale or
exhale to their fullest possible potential, and this can result in
feeling tired. To rejuvenate a bit, exhale completely through
your mouth, then try this: Inhale through your nose slowly, for a
count of four; hold your breath for a count of seven, then exhale
through your mouth for a count of eight. Doing this three times
in a row should pick up your energy level.
7. Hummus - Hummus is known for its complex carbohydrates,
protein and unsaturated fats, which give us energy during the
day. So why not spread some on your sandwich or use it as a
dip for your vegetables?
8. Yoga - This relaxing, but challenging, workout trend will
strengthen your muscles and energize your body. Check out
various Web sites for some beginner poses and practice on a
mat, if you have one, or on a folded blanket. The Warrior pose is
a good start.
9. Eating Good Carbs - Whole grains fill you up and are a
healthy alternative to your diet. Although nothing in excess is
good, neither is completely avoiding carbohydrates. Carbs give
you energy; you need energy to get through the day and to
sustain you through your exercising program. Don't miss out on
healthy carbs. Check out Recipe4Living for some healthy recipes.
10. Water - Water is not only the best beverage to drink for
hydration, but it also has many health benefits as well. It
provides you with energy, increases your metabolism and
controls hunger and cravings.
